Obituary: Edward S. Zemanik 1928 - 2018

Edward S. Zemanik, 90, of Tamaqua, passed away Monday, Sept. 10, at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg.

Born in Coaldale, on March 17, 1928, he was a son of the late Augustine and Pauline (Vicho) Zemanik.

He was the loving husband of Joan M. (Urban) Zemanik. The couple shared 63 years of marriage.

Ed was a Coaldale High School graduate, Class of 1946, and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.

He was formerly employed in research and development by Atlas Chemical.

Ed was a member of St. John XXIII Parish, Tamaqua.

He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 173, Tamaqua, for 60 years, and both the Mahanoy City Coal Cracker Chorus and the Barbershop Harmony Society, S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., for 50 years.

In addition to his parents, Ed was also preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Michael and Frank Zemanik.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by three sons, Monsignor Edward Zemanik of Schuylkill Haven, Robert Zemanik of Port Carbon, and Thomas Zemanik Sr. of Allentown.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kristine Yanett, Thomas Zemanik Jr., USAF, and Matthew Zemanik; and two great-grandchildren, Levi Zemanik and Landen Yanett.

Service: A viewing will be held Friday, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Msgr. Edward S. Zemanik officiating. Military honors will immediately follow Mass in the church.

Interment will be held at St. Jerome's Catholic Cemetery, Tamaqua.

At the family's request, memorial donations may be sent to St. Jerome's Regional School, to help fund great-grandson, Landen Yanett's education. Checks should include "In memory of Edward Zemanik" on the memo line, and may be mailed to 50 Meadow Ave., Tamaqua, PA 18252.
