The new Lansford Historical Society Museum will now be open every Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m, according to Society President Bill Harleman. The Lansford Historical Society Museum is located at 117 East Bertsch St. in Lansford above the Panther Valley Public Library. In addition to these regular hours, the museum is also available other days and times by appointment.

Visitors will be able to view local history exhibits and artifacts donated by local residents. The Lansford local history museum started about two years ago and has been a work in progress ever since. The goal was to create a local Museum for items relating to the history of the greater Lansford area and also create an Archives Room to preserve records, photos, books, maps, newspapers and other similar fragile items related to the Lansford area.

The Archives Room is located on the lower level of the building and is climate controlled.

The Lansford Historical Society has owned the former Lansford Methodist Church building for about a decade and had always hoped to open a local history museum on the second floor once the library was up and running on the first floor. This dream has now been accomplished and continues to grow and expand. The society is constantly looking for donations of anything related to Lansford Area history. Current exhibits include ethnic heritage, military veterans, churches, mining, fire, police, school, borough, old business signs, Dorsey family, businesses, organizations, architecture, local art works, Coaldale history, and more. More display space and glass display cases are being added regularly as we continue to expand.

The Historical Society created the new Lansford National Historic District which was officially designated in 2012 and encompasses most of the borough.

This year the Society will install three signs near the entrances to Lansford that read "Welcome to Lansford National Historic District." The Society also has a new historical tour brochure in progress that will provide a self guided tour of many of the most notable historic sites in the Borough's Historic District. This will compliment the Lansford Church Tour brochure that was created a few years ago by the Society. The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor is assisting the Society with these projects.

The Lansford Historical Society is an active partner with area organizations including the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum, Lansford Alive, Lansford-Summit Hill Community Partnership, Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, the National Canal Museum, and the Borough of Lansford. "Working together, we can help Lansford build on its heritage to bring added economic benefits to the town" said Dale Freudenberger, Society Secretary.

Lansford Historical Society meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Lansford Museum on the lower level in the Archives Room. The public is welcome.
