Nicholas Teno

Nicholas "Kiki" Teno, 82, of 240 W. Ridge St., Coaldale, died Sunday (November 16) in the Skilled Nursing Facility of the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. He was the husband of Martha (Lorchak) Teno. They observed their 57th wedding anniversary on Sept. 23.

He was a mill rite for the former Bundy Tubing Company, Hometown, for 32 years before retiring in 1981, and previously was a truck driver for the Charles Riebe Construction Company.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Michael and Sophie (Stetesko) Teno, and was a lifelong resident of the community.

He was a member of St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church, Coaldale, where he formerly sang in the choir and was a past council member. He was the janitor of the church for many years.

A 1943 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, he was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served as a sonarman third class.

He was a volunteer at the former Coaldale State General Hospital and a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. posts and the West Ward Rod and Gun Club, all of Coaldale.

The deceased was a member of the Russian Brotherhood Organization of the U.S.A., where he served as secretary for many years.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Michael of Spring Hill, Fla., and Nicholas Jr., and his wife, Tiven (Steigerwalt), of Mahoning Valley; a daughter Barbara of Hometown; a sister, Helen Scheese of Coaldale; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, John, Andrew, Steve and Michael; and a sister, Mary Mateyak.

The Sverchek-Blazosky Funeral Home, 340 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.
