Marvin J. Evans

Marvin J. Evans, 77, of E. Bull Run St., Coaldale, died Monday, July 25, 2011, in Coaldale. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Jacobs) Evans. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in July.

He retired in 1979 from Mack Trucks, Allentown, where he had been employed in maintenance.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late William and Rose (Ambrosic) Evans.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart on March 27, 1953.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 170, Coaldale; Marine Corp League Post 626; and the Coaldale Fire Company. He attended Coaldale High School.

Surviving with his wife are daughters, Jacqueline, wife of Mark Hollan, Laurys Station, and Robin, wife of David Slonaker, Sunbury; a sister, Rosemary, Tamaqua; grandchildren: Lindsay Hollan, Virginia, Christine Hollan, Laurys Station, Jessica (Slonaker) , wife of Christopher Splgelmeyer, Mass., and Colby Slonaker, Sunbury.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, William.

Service: Private services at the convenience of the family. Contributons in his name may be made to St. Luke's VNA Hospice, 1510 Valley Center Parkway, Suite 200, Bethlehem, PA. 18017. The Gulla Funeral Home, 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale, is in charge of arrangements.
