William Bybel

William "Wash" Bybel, 94, of Coaldale, died Tuesday, July 23, in Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Anna (Vargovich) Bybel, who passed away in 1996. Prior to retiring in 1980, he was employed as a machinist at the former Bundy Tubing, Hometown. Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Matika) Bybel. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded a Purple Heart, serving in the European Theater of Operations. Bybel was a member of St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church, Coaldale. He attended the former Coaldale High School and was a member of the Russian Club of Coaldale. Surviving are two sons, William J. Bybel of Grand Ledge, Mich., and Michael J. Bybel of Summit Hill and his wife, Celeste; a daughter, Priscilla, wife of Paul Martin of Grand Ledge, Mich.; grandchildren, Charleen Bybel of Nesquehoning, Teresa Zurek of Chicago, Ill., Christina Martin of Lansing, Mich., and Jeremy Bybel of Conshohocken; one brother, Paul Bybel of Coaldale; one sister, Eve Dempsher of Rockville, Md.; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Peter, Andrew, Harry, John, Paul and Stephen; and infant sisters, Anna and Mary. Service: 10 a.m., Saturday, St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church, 217 First St., Coaldale, with the Rev. Daniel Mathewson officiating. Interment, Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown. Call Friday, 6-9 p.m., Gulla Funeral Home, 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale, or 8-10 a.m. Saturday, in the church. Parastas service 7 p.m., Friday. Memorials in her name may be made to the church.
