Bernard D. Yanacek

Obituary

Bernard D. "Bernie" Yanacek, 79, of Hatfield, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 . He was the husband of the late Dolores A. (Yasso) Yanacek, who died in 1999. They were married for 39 years.

Prior to retiring, he had been employed by Merck, as a packaging operator, for 25 years. Previously, he had been employed by American Olean Tile.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Joseph M. and Rose (Zavish) Yanacek.

A 1951 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, Bernie married his sweetheart, Dolores, and the couple moved to Hatfield.

A long time member of St. Maria Goretti Parish in Hatfield, he most recently was a member of the Corpus Christi Parish in Lansdale.

Known for his love of polishing his car, he always had a Mercury or Lincoln that was in pristine condition. He enjoyed preparing holiday concoctions to be enjoyed by family and friends every Christmas and Easter. Above all else, he will be remembered as a family man and will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Surviving are his children, Joseph A. and his wife, Cynthia of Harleysville and Deborah, wife of Michael Mayall of New Albany; six grandchidren, Jeff, Brandi, Stephanie, Kimberly, Lillian and Lindsey; and two great grandchildren, Kourtney and Aubrey.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Bernard D. Yanacek Jr.

Service: Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., Corpus Christi Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale. Interment, SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Call 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, or 9-10 a,m. Wednesday, at the church.
