Mrs. Veronica (Stoffey) Bench

Mrs. Veronica Bench, 86, of Lansford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Nov. 18, in the St. Luke's Miners Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Coaldale. She was the widow of Daniel Bench Sr.

She worked most of her life as a sewing machine operator for various factories in the area.

Born in Coaldale on June 12, 1929, she was a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Chaballa) Stoffey.

She was a 1947 graduate of the former Coaldale High School.

Mrs. Bench was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.

She enjoyed baking and spending time with family and friends.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a sister, Marge Shigo of Lansford; three brothers, Thomas, and his wife, Jeanie, of Tamaqua, Joseph, and his wife, Patricia, of Pottsville, and George, and his wife, Annie, of Coaldale; a son Ronald of Hometown; two daughters, Debbie, wife of Edward Slusarik of Ashley, and Marie, wife of Marty Infante of Coaldale; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and many nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Jr.; a grandson, Edward Slusarik; and a sister, Dorothy Zimmerman.

Service: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 124 E. Abbott St., Lansford. Interment, St. Michael's New Cemetery, Summit Hill.
